Thirst review coming soon

The Thirst was released yesterday, and though I have now watched it, I don’t have time tonight to do up a review. Expect one Thursday or Friday.

Hell no! We won’t go!

Some of you probably know this already, but Victoria and Theresa over at Marked By the Boys went to the Indianapolis Famous Monsters Con and got to speak with the Boys themselves. While they were there, Chance Michael Corbitt told Victoria that he was almost in the Thirst.

Note ‘almost’.

In the end, so the story goes, Warner was cheap and wouldn’t fly Chance to South Africa for filming. And they considered hiring another actor to play Laddie!

Now say it with me: Those scheisskopf bastards.

Jamison Newlander (Also known as Alan) seconded the story. I’m trusting them, because if the Warner thought The Tribe was a good idea, then this is more than believable.

Victoria has started an online petition, so please, sign it. We want Chance. Not another actor, CHANCE.

Corey Haim-dead!

Posted in General with tags , , , on March 10, 2010 by chikaki

My fellow Lost Girls and Boys-

One of our number has been taken from us. Corey Haim died today at the age of thirty-eight, much too soon and much too sad.

Corey’s mom was in the middle of getting chemotherapy for cancer and Corey was helping her at her home when he died early this morning. He left what, I think, will become a hidden legacy, so much like the Lost Boys. While main media will overlook it, those who remember him and his work won’t soon forget.

Though authorities suspect a drug overdose, as four pill bottles were found near him, I believe that, while long term drug use may have had a large role in his early death, it will be natural causes that took him. I believe Corey was working hard to beat his addictions, and succeeding. By looking at pictures of him, one would never guess that he had a stroke almost a decade ago-and overcame it. The stroke was drug-induced, and I believe that his use of drugs for so long had a role.

Corey should be a hero for many, with his long-time struggle with fame and drugs. He worked hard for what he had and wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. For that, we honour him.

Rest in eternal peace and happiness, Corey. The world is a sadder place without you.

Here is a touching obituary from Rogers.

Chika does movies-Moon Child

Posted in General, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on February 21, 2010 by chikaki

No-I’m not going to start making movies. The fun’s in writing, anyways.

What I’m going to do is every other month, I’ll write about a vampire movie that I like (Or dislike, depending on how vicious I’m feeling). I’ll be doing the basics, a picture, summary, etc. But I’ll also be listing the strengths and weaknesses, as well as what attracted me to the movie, fanfictions that are from the movie fandoms, how I found it, why it reminds me of The Lost Boys, and my score out of ten-also known as fangs out of ten. Hey, it has to be vampy, right? There’ll also be a cheese score, because no vampire movie is a vampire movie without a little swiss or gouda. I joke. But no vampire movie is a vampire movie without cheese.

This’ll be in every even month, because I can’t count on school cooperating every month. Plus, I’m really very lazy.

SO. For the first month, I’m doing Moon Child.

Photobucket

2003, starring Gackt Camui, Hyde Takarai, and Leehom Wang

SUMMARY (IMDB): In the year 2014, Japan has collapsed economically and its people emigrated in large numbers and settled in other parts of the world. In a corner in Asia, there is a city called Mallepa, a big melting pot where Asians such as Hongkongers, Taiwanese and Japanese live together. It was a place where people fought for order, food and freedom. It was there where Sho, raised as an orphan and Kei, who could live forever, met and became the best of friends. However, they were unable to escape from the fight for power involving gangs of different ethnicity on the street of Mallepa.

WHAT ATTRACTED CHIKA AND HOW DID SHE FIND IT?: Back in the day when I was first given a copy of TLB, I was a weaboo. Really. Those folks so obsessed with Japanese pop culture that I cried when I couldn’t see a concert by one the the J-rock groups. (Yes, that really happened.) I was a huge Gackt fan, and in the summer of 2008, upon discovering that he wrote and starred in a movie, I immeditely found it online and watched it. It’s one of two movies (Besides Brother Bear-again, yes, REALLY) that made me cry because the ending was so tragic and beautiful.

STRENGTHS: For one, the male leads-Gackt, Hyde, and Leehom-are all very sexy, and this is never a bad thing. For another, it hints at guy-on-guy action, and THIS is also never a bad thing. It has well done fight scenes, with lots of guns. There are a few things so brilliant that it’s a wonder no one else thought of it first-when you get to any Happy Pizza scene, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Although the movie has only a little English, and is mostly in Japanese with some Cantonese and Mandarin tossed in, there are clear subtitles for all foreign languages besides English. Hyde, who plays the vampire Kei, is angsty about having to kill people without being an Edward Cullen and when we DO see him kill and drink blood on scene, he looks delightfully creepy and terrifying, while managing to look tragic for his fate at the same time. The theme song, performed by Hyde and Gackt (Who were musicians long before this movie), Orenji no Taiyou, is beautiful. VAMPIRES BURN AND SMOKE IN SUNLIGHT, but can tolerate being in sun if covered/and if raining.

WEAKNESSES: Although Hyde walk a fine line between badass and Edward Cullen levels of angst, he sometimes borders too much on Cullen. It would be nice if it focused a little more on the relationship between Kei and his maker, Luka, and it would be nice to know more about his turning other than “He drank your blood and turned you”. Some posters say this was in 1888, but there was no reference to his age in the movie.* The movie timeline is swift and a little confusing at times, but overall this can be figured out. How mortals like Sho age so well is a mystery. It would be nice if it focused a little less on relationships and plot (But that’s never a bad thing to focus on) and a little more on the vampirism, but it is dealt with enough to not be a big deal.

FANFICTION: There are, at time of writing, 282 Moon Child fanfictions. The best one I’d recommend is Breakaway and it’s sequel, Shadows of the Past. Well written and a different approach, while still giving delightful yaoi (Which means guy-on-guy, homoerotic) and deep thought. Their pain is well developed and their characters develop simply beautifully. Even if you don’t see the movie, I recommend this fic just for the story and the quality of writing.

HOW IS IT LIKE TLB: The vampires really don’t care about injury, because they are only going to die in fire or sun. They also like smoking and do so with no abandon or regard for their lungs. David would approve. Kei drinks blood twice onscreen and at least five times offscreen. And most importantly of all, there isn’t a sparkle in sight. Several times Kei starts to smoke in the sunlight and the exposed skin blisters, whereas Luka, his maker, burns and actually is on fire from head-to-toe.

CHEESINESS SCORE: Seven cheddar out of ten. There’s a lot of smushy-ness is the relationship between Sho and Kei, and Kei’s struggle between his vampire and human natures pushes the boundary at times. However, with his desire to die and his willingness to actually go throught with a death sentence (Unlike a certain sparklepire) redeem him of this, as does the kills he performs on screen.

FINAL SCORE: Eight fangs out of ten

*But it should be noted that even in The Lost Boys, it never says how old any of the vampire are. The onyl one we have a clue for is Max and that’s from the extended version of his death, and George Cannom commented that he aged to his real age of 300 years. So the not-knowing bit is fairly minor.

Avatars

Posted in General with tags , , , , on January 6, 2010 by chikaki

Despite the fact that it’s taken me…about five months to finish doing SIX avatars, I’m so pleased to annoucnce my first set of avatars for TLB!

Below you’ll see the six avatars, which are all from the same base image: Our Boys, David, Dwayne, Marko and Paul, as well as Laddie and Star. Please feel free to grab one for your own use, all I ask is that you please give credit where credit is due (As in, to me) and maybe link back. Linking not necessary, but makes me smile!

You’ll also find all the graphic edits I make in a page to the right labelled “Edits”. Right now it’s only these six, but once more are added they will appear there, too.

Enough talking, let’s get on to the avatars!

David Dwayne

Paul Marko

Laddie Star

(Yes, I’m currently using Laddie. :3 )

A little bit of Twilight…goodness?

Posted in General with tags , , , , , , on December 1, 2009 by chikaki

Oh yes. You don’t need glasses, you’re not going blind, it really says “Twilight goodness”. (Though for not updating this one for so long, I should be forced to read the entire series. Not a saga, Goddamnit.)

This is the goodness I was talking about. Ah, I love Sparknotes. They made this guy read the series and write blog entries on it, and his comments are great. You’ll never see soup the same way again!

Also, These girls earn the Grandpa Badge of Slayage for their burnin’ hot slayage of Twilight. There’ll be tears in your eyes, I tell you. It will be beautiful.

(And I know this wasn’t strictly LB, but hey, after the blog below on Warner Bros’ horrific decision to reference Sata-I mean…SMeyer… we need a chuckle. At Twilight’s expense.)

It’s getting better all the time

Posted in General with tags , on September 28, 2009 by chikaki

(Title borrowed shamelessly from the Beatle’s fabulous song, Getting Better)

And no, the “sequel” situation (Sequel being in quotation marks because it can hardly be called one) is getting no better, but All the damn vampires is starting to get tidier and links, pages, whathaveyou are being put up to the right.

Right now the only two pages relate to the sequel. One being just a title page at the moment, the other being my rant on the synopsis of The Thirst. Ooooh, scary title. I’m shaking in my sneakers. Ahem. I wrote it up about ten minutes after the blurb was found, and since I was literally shaking with anger, it may not be perfectly spelled or in order, but it felt pretty damn good. It was also several days ago and can be found at Blood and Kisses, it’s original home.

Because we will not take this sequel. Oh no. The fans aren’t taking this lying down, 99.9% of all optimism is long blown up, and you can bet that we’re not going to give Warner money for it. Oh no. We have our ways. (I’m cackling, by the way.)

The Lost Boys: The thirst set to reference Twilight

Posted in General, Rants with tags , , , on September 26, 2009 by chikaki

Yes. Truly the apocalypse is upon us.

I was trying to be positive about this sequel at first. Really, I was. I was trying to be optimistic. But after it was discovered that it would be direct-to-DVD and found the synopsis on Bloody Disgusting, the hope shattered like an old piece of glass.

But the synopsis is not what has my stakes in a pile right now. No, it’s the fact that the writer, Evan Charnov, decided that he wanted to reference Twilight of all things. The synopsis, found at BD, says “wealthy vampire-romance novelist Gwen Liebling“; in other words, they’re trying to get Twitards to buy the movie in hopes of seeing their precious Bedward make a guest appearance.

Though SMeyer may think that she invented the vampire and made him “pehfectwy wuvable and innocent” since he “won’t evuh kill a pehson because dey’re soh wuvable an’ cute”, that’s NOT a vampire. See the header up top: Do they LOOK innocent? Do they look like they think killing people is morally repungant? No. The Boys kill people and love every minute of it. The bonfire scene? Gore fest: David bites open someone’s skull, Marko (Looking as wonderfully creepy as someone could) throws punches into the air and celebrates, Dwayne laughs hard as he tosses someone onto the fire and it looked like Paul ripped off some Surf Nazi’s scalp. That sounds like a big whooha, not four boys who sit around and MOAN about having to live forever, drink blood and kill people.

Twi-blight and LB do not belong in the same sentence together. The only way in which they could conceivably is in a case like the first sentence of this paragraph. They go together less than oil and water: Not at all.

This is a huge insult to the fans of the Lost Boys. We talk about the problems with Twi-blight frequently-whether ranting about the flat, 1D characters or lamenting it’s total bastardization of vampires, we loathe it. For Warner Bros. to try and insert it into a sequel already making us mad is just insulting. What will they do next? Try to convince SMeyer to play the part?

…Thank heavens that she WON’T, since she’s already called TLB “creepy”.

But this cannot go. Putting Twi-blight references into this is wrong on so many levels.

Welcome!

Posted in General on September 25, 2009 by chikaki

Hello, everyone! Welcome to the sister site of Blood and Kisses, All the damn vampires!

Why a second blog, you may ask? Why have two for one fandom? Well, it’s simple. Blood and Kisses is my dearly beloved blog for fanfiction, whereas All the damn vampires will be for everything else in the fandom. Be it rants, news, graphics I make, etc, it’s my little corner of the Lost Boys world where Blood and Kisses is my corner of the Lost Boys fanfic world. Fair enough?

Great!

Where did the name come from? Well, a certain old kook that is my favourite character in the world of Lost Boys. That’s right, it’s…

GRANDPA!!!!!!

Yes, that lovable old man with the best car ever and a love for stuffed animals. Lions and owls and beavers, oh my. The senile grandfather with a love for playing dead on the porch.

Man I love him. <3

So sit back, relax, kick your heels up and enjoy the ride!
